What influenced you to choose Stirling Management School to study your course?
After researching on postgraduate programmes in accounting and finance I decided that the Stirling Management School Programme would be right for me. I visited the campus to get a feel of the place and it was love at first sight! A beautiful campus and a good programme, what’s not to like? After making the decision to apply, I was thrilled to be the recipient of The Dorothy Nicol Scholarship.
What specific feature(s) did you like most about the course?
This course is designed in way that all modules somehow link together and give you an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of accounting and finance.
It is a challenging course but the lecturers are brilliant, passionate about their subject and always willing to help by encouraging you to take advantage of their knowledge, enthusiasm and guidance.
The highlight of my course was the Amplify Trading event. For a few days I was able to feel like a stock trader with a lot of money to work with. Exhilarating! I also enjoyed working on my dissertation because it made me delve deeper into social aspects of accounting that I had not considered before.
What advice would you give to prospective students coming to Stirling?
Careful, you might fall in love with Stirling and stay on like me! You will enjoy the course as well as the social life. There is something for everyone and a diverse student population. I would advise you to make an effort to mix and make friends with different people and if possible, live in student accommodation because you will end up with valuable lifelong friendships. Also, amazingly, you will notice that your closest relationships were probably formed at the 24/7 library study zone on brightly coloured beanbags and coffee.
What impact do you think your studies will have on your future career?
My knowledge of accounting and finance was highly enhanced and gave me confidence in the subject which is evident when discussing financial issues or in interviews. I now enjoy and understand financial media programmes and topics. I managed to get into a finance role and feel very well prepared to pursue my professional studies towards chartered accountancy.
