Myra Hessett

BA History

I am a Depute Head Teacher in a Scottish secondary school where, as well as teaching History, I have responsibility for all issues relevant to S5/6 pupils.  This involves shaping their curriculum, preparing them for life after school, advising on the UCAS process and dealing with any pastoral issues they may have.  I also have whole school responsibilities in pastoral care, GIRFEC, and in line managing subject departments etc.  I have been a teacher for my entire career, and experience gained in previous middle management posts helped to prepare me for senior management.

During my time at Stirling I found the breadth of History courses on offer wide-ranging and interesting, and the tutorials encouraged confidence in discussing and challenging.  I always wanted to be a teacher, and, after studying History at Stirling, I subsequently qualified in education.  I think I have the best job in the world.
