Internships through the ISS

If you're looking for a summer internship opportunity, the International Summer School (ISS) offers a unique chance to both study and work abroad. Applications for 2018 are now open.

Students who enrol in the 2018 ISS will receive full support from ISS staff and members of the University of Stirling’s dedicated Careers and Employability Service, who will match you to an appropriate business or organisation and support you through your internship. Internships include 140 hours of ‘work’ time and ten hours of support and ‘classroom’ time.

Applicants from outside of the EU (including the USA and Canada):

  • Enrol in the 2018 ISS for both Blocks 1 and 2
  • During Block 1, study two ISS modules and receive the equivalent of six US credits
  • During Block 2, carry out an internship at a local business or non-profit organisation and receive the equivalent of three more US credits
  • Please note due to the requirement to obtain a UKBA Tier 4 visa in order to take part in the ISS internship (ISS9IN), internship students must complete both Block 1 and 2
  • Please note an additional fee for a Tier 4 visa will apply

Applicants from the EU*

  • You are welcome to enrol in both Block 1 and 2 though you are not required to do so in order to take part in the ISS internship module in Block 2
  • If you take part in Block 1, you will study two ISS modules and receive the equivalent of ten ECTS credits
  • During Block 2, you will carry out an internship at a local business or non-profit organisation and receive the equivalent of five more ECTS credits
  • EU* students interested in the internship only are encouraged to contact iss@stir.ac.uk. A reduced fee for this option may apply.

  • Basketball Scotland, the governing body for basketball in Scotland
  • Innerpeffray Library, the oldest public library in Scotland
  • Destination Loch Lomond, a graphic communication project promoting tourism near the beautiful Loch Lomond area
  • Scottish Athletics
  • The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum
  • Creative Stirling
  • Stirling District Citizens Advice Bureau
  • Scottish Youth Hostel Association
  • The Write People for Design
