Staying on track

As well as the first week programme, we have organised a series of ongoing events to assist you in getting to know more about studying at the University. These will be held throughout the first semester. You can also get yourself a mentor to help you settle in to uni life.

Information and Study Skills sessions are run by Student Learning Services and the Library.

Library information sessions

In your first week there will be Library and IT Induction sessions. This is a basic introductory session delivered mainly through a series of videos which cover all the core Library and IT stuff that you need to know when starting at the university.

Thereafter, many of your academic modules also include Library Information Skills sessions tailored to subject area.

The Library also runs drop in sessions at various times throughout semester - check the big tower displays in the Library for dates and times. There is also a series of lunchtime training sessions for researchers - these are publicised in the Staff Roundup weekly bulletin (received by all staff and postgraduate research students) and also by the Research Office.

Student Learning Services' workshops

We offer free workshops for undergraduate students including getting ready for university study, learning on-line, successful studies, essay writing and preparing for assessment. The atmosphere is informal with time to ask questions and discuss issues arising. These will be advertised later in the summer.
