Welcome to Stirling Management School

Your first few weeks on campus will be busy. It can be fun but also challenging and it's important to make sure you are aware of the services and opportunities that we offer to help you get the best out of University life.

To help you settle in, we run an action packed first few weeks. The first meetings for SMS undergraduates and the Flying Start Leadership Programme (for postgraduates) are designed to ensure that you prepare and learn more about your course, new ways of learning, meet new friends, and get to know your lecturers, so be sure to attend these sessions as a priority.

Welcome from Professor Kevin Grant, Dean of Stirling Management School

"Our commitment to whole person development is testament to the success of our students' employability and the lifelong skills our students develop during their time at Stirling. I look forward to welcoming you all in due course."

I'm delighted that you have accepted a place on one of our courses. I would personally like to welcome you to the Stirling Management School. We will do our very best for you and I hope that you will enjoy and benefit from your studies. The degree course you have chosen has been carefully designed, after widespread consultation with industry and the professional institutions. This ensures that on graduation you will be well placed to pursue the career of your choice equipped with a valuable and sustainable set of skills and attributes.  We work with our international advisory board (chaired by one of our ex-students) on helping to ensure we give you what is needed to support and enable your career aspirations, from a research intensive school, who is connected to and with industry, who operate both locally and globally.

Throughout your studies, you'll be exposed to a range of relevant learning opportunities with much of your time exploring theory, practice and enterprise with lectures delivered by highly qualified and approachable academic staff and senior figures from business. We encourage you to work hard which requires dedication beyond just the contact hours of your course. Our courses are designed to provide you many opportunities for networking and socialisation that are essential to the development of a well-rounded graduate. I ask that you give your best during your studies with us. We will certainly endeavour to match your commitment to your studies and ensure your expectations are fully realised.

Our commitment to whole person development is testament to the success of our students' employability and the lifelong skills our students develop during their time at Stirling - 94.3% of our graduates were in employment or further study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes 2019/20, HESA), and our high standing in the ranking tables, coupled with our AACSB aspirations and Small Business Charter and our high ranking in terms of research, being 14th in the UK for Research Impact and 25th of Research Intensity.

We're committed to student employability, please look out for the many events which run throughout the semester where you'll have an opportunity to engage with employers and improve your career prospects. Details of these will be publicised on Canvas as well as the School website.

I hope that you are as excited as we are about the aspirations we have at the Stirling Management School, via:
