Swimming lessons at the university
Our adult swimming lessons offer sessions for all abilities, whether you’re learning to swim for the first time, heading back into the pool or looking to refine your swimming techniques.
The programmes are run in a friendly and supportive environment with a range of classes for beginners, improvers and the over fifty age group. We take pride in helping you to learn or improve your swimming.
One to one lessons are also available with our expert instructors to help you achieve your personal swimming goals.

We are operating a phased return of activities in our sports centre based on operational capacity. As a result, our sports programmes remain paused.

Swimming lesson levels
It’s never too late to learn to swim! We understand that you may feel nervous about taking swimming lessons as an adult. If you have a fear of the water, or panic just thinking about the deep end, then this class is for you. We’ll help you with water confidence and relaxation and introduce you to core aquatic skills, including aquatic breathing.
Improver - Stroke Development
This stage will help you develop stroke technique and core aquatic skills. We can tailor lessons to the stroke you wish to develop.
Skills and Drills
This stage will develop your pool etiquette and teach you to use equipment such as kickboards, pull buoys and fins. You’ll learn efficient stroke technique as we introduce you to basic training programmes to develop your fitness and stamina.
Adult Swim FEST
This class is perfect if you’re looking to improve your fitness, endurance, speed and technique. Classes are tailored to meet your individual needs.
