David is the Careers Consultant for the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, working closely with the Faculty to help all its students achieve positive employment outcomes, as well as supporting the University-wide work of the CES. His remit includes:
Career Development Learning
Work Based and Work Related Learning
Individual advice and guidance
Central workshop delivery
He completed an MPhil in Religious Studies at the University of Stirling in 1989, and gained his Diploma in Careers Guidance from Kent College for the Careers Service in 1992. After working in Kent Careers Service he moved to the University of Reading. He took a leading role in the award winning Career Management Skills initiative and the Centre for Career Management Skills (a HEFCE funded CETL) which was responsible for creating the Destinations career learning material sold to over 70 Universities in the UK and Europe, later becoming a University Teaching Fellow. From 2011 to 2019 he led the Careers Service at the University of Essex. David is a qualified ILM work-place coach and a Principal Fellow of the HEA.
