Curling scholarships

We are officially Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence in recognition of our significant impact on Scottish sport. We’re renowned for our outstanding contributions to world sport and for giving young talent opportunities to fulfil their potential.

Curling scholarships at the University of Stirling are offered in partnership with British and Scottish Curling. The partnership aims to enable elite Curling athletes to combine a dual career between academic study and performance sport. A Curling scholarship provides athletes with bespoke coaching programme to allow them to develop and progress along the Curling performance pathway, alongside an academic environment, which provides both high educational value and flexibility to enable the demands of elite sport.

Enhanced training opportunities are provided within the City of Stirling, which hosts the National Performance Centre at the Peak, providing dedicated ice all year around. The Scottish and British Curling programme would provide scholars with:

  • High Performance coaching services, providing technical and tactical advice
  • Strength and conditioning support
  • Sports medicine, support including physiotherapy
  • Sports psychology support to work on individual and team dynamics
  • Other support services including nutrition and performance analysis
  • The costs of the above are covered, plus ice facility charges for these training and competition costs

The University of Stirling are able to offer additional support to selected curlers in the form of academic flexibility and financial subsidies for academic related expenses like accommodation, living grants and tuition fees if applicable. Scholarship subsidies go up to a maximum of £2,000 per annum.
