Training: PhD Seminars, Conferences and Skills Development

In addition to engaging with our research groups, here in the Faculty of Social Sciences, we offer wide-ranging opportunities for all students to run, contribute to and attend seminars, workshops, reading and study groups. We also have dedicated annual events such as our Postgraduate Training Week (December), our Postgraduate Symposium (April) and our Doctoral conference (May).

All research students also have access to courses, seminars and development opportunities offered by Stirling Graduate School (SGS) and the Scottish Graduate School of Social Sciences, giving access to advanced training and summer school programmes.

There are further development opportunities for PhD students to undertake some tutoring as well as some paid lecturing to undergraduate students.  There are also many internship opportunities open to a PhD student throughout the duration of a studentship although this is usually not available in your first year.
