The Student Enterprise Programme is launching a new strand of activities for academic year 2018/19. Sponsored by Santander Universities, SEED (Student Enterprise Enhanced Development) will provide a structured pathway for developing enhanced enterprise skills, gained from expert guidance and professional advice, which will prepare students to develop and launch a professional and well-considered business idea.

SEED consists of:

  • a unique year-long development programme
  • individual professional advisory services in the fields of law, HR, accountancy and marketing
  • masterclasses
  • workshops
  • one-to-one mentorship
  • certificate of participation
  • hours towards My Stirling Award

For more information about SEED, email studententerprise@stir.ac.uk.

SEED Masterclasses are an exciting opportunity to hear from professionals in the fields of HR, law, accountancy and marketing. The exclusive masterclasses are open for any student to attend, and will be particularly beneficial for those studying a degree in the relevant discipline.

Competitions

The Student Enterprise Programme runs an annual student ideas competition with a twist, The Entrepreneurial Quest. Taking place in the spring each year, the Quest consists of three short pitches for amazing prizes.

In the course of one evening expert judges help student participants to navigate the three-stage Quest by sharing their professional advice in the areas of marketing, finance and business planning. Winners are awarded an exciting package of support, including access to incubation, and the chance to progress to represent the University at the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards, competing for a share of their impressive national prize pot.

The next Entrepreneurial Quest takes place in 2020.

Lunch with a Leader

Returning for a third year, ‘Lunch with a Leader’ is an initiative aiming to facilitate engagement between students and Scottish businesses, furthering understanding and awareness of entrepreneurship and enterprise. Up to three interested students will be selected to attend a lunch with a local entrepreneur/business leader at the Stirling Court Hotel during the months of October, November, January, February and March.

By attending any Student Enterprise Programme workshops or events in a given month, students gain automatic entry to be selected for that month’s Lunch with a Leader. Alternatively, students can enter by emailing studententerprise@stir.ac.uk with a short (max 100 words) statement answering why are you hungry to talk entrepreneurship?

Incubator

The Student Enterprise incubator (The Hive), based at University of Stirling Innovation Park, and with generous support from the Santander Universities programme, offers Stirling students free office accommodation, professional advice, mentoring, business support services and much more.

The incubator has successfully helped many student businesses to get started. Access to the incubator for the period of one year is awarded as the prize at our annual Entrepreneurial Quest competition and shorter term access is available by open application during the year. To find out more or apply please contact us at studententerprise@stir.ac.uk.

Stirling University Innovation Park

The Stirling University Innovation Park (SUIP) situated on campus gives innovative companies and organisations the perfect business location. Find out more about the Stirling University Innovation Park here.

Other support and competitions

We work in collaboration with a number of enterprise support agencies to ensure students have as much support and as many opportunities as possible to pursue their ideas. For more information on the support and competitions each organisation can offer, please use links below to access their websites and/or email studententerprise@stir.ac.uk for more information or to speak with a member of our team.

Start-up visa

The Tier 1 Start-up scheme is designed to support early-stage and high potential entrepreneurs to start a business in the UK for the first time. The University of Stirling is an endorsing body and will accept applications for this scheme from University of Stirling graduates.

Students aiming to move onto this visa following completion of their studies must attend at least three of the Enterprise Programme workshops to develop their ideas and understanding of entrepreneurship, and discussed their business idea with a member of the enterprise team during the six months prior to an application being developed.
