Internal Funding Opportunities

All of these schemes are open to academic staff undertaking research at the University of Stirling. All schemes are competitive and will be evaluated against their potential to secure further external funding, fit to the University priorities and strategic objectives, and (if appropriate) ODA eligibility. The funds available are limited so meeting the criteria does not guarantee funding.

Applications for CONNECT and CONNECT + and ENHANCED SUPPORT can be made at any time by completing the following application and submitting this to the Research Funding & Development team within RIS.

Applications for SPARK will be twice a year in November and March the next closing date will be 21st November 2017

Connect and Connect+

The Connect scheme is intended to support the discussion and exchange of ideas on a specified thematic area, issue or problem. By facilitating interactions between researchers and stakeholders to build connections and initiate potential collaborations. Applications are invited to support travel either to or from the University of Stirling. The maximum value of the awards is £5000 of direct costs.

The Connect + scheme is intended to support a meeting or workshop (or series of) to consolidate relationships and collaborations to stimulate ideas and work on funding applications. Proposals should explore new ideas, be multi-institutional and can include creative or innovative approaches. The maximum value of the awards is £10,000 of direct costs.

Applications will be particularly welcomed where there is a partnership from a country(s) that is on the DACs list and the proposals are exploring ways to promote the economic development, health and social welfare of these countries. Additional funding has been made available for projects that meet these criteria.

Spark

The Spark scheme is intended to support the pump priming of research projects where some initial funding will provide the spark for a larger application to an external funding body. The proposal must explicitly state where external funding will be applied for, including a commitment to submit on a certain date. The maximum value of the awards is £10,000 direct costs and the external application must be above a value of £250K fEC (if in collaboration with other partners the value to UoS must be £250K fEC).

Additional funding has been made available for projects that meet these criteria.

Collaborate

The University of Stirling is supporting a number of Scotland wide initiatives to develop research partnerships and projects to promote the economic development, health and social welfare of these countries. Networking and engagement events as well as a Crucible activities will be supported financially and we will encourage applications to all of these activities as and when they arise.

Enhanced Support

This is open to teams who are submitting large and complex research applications. This is intended to provide additional application project management, bid writing, review and proof reading support from external consultants. To apply for enhanced support the value of any potential award must be ~£0.5M. This enhanced support will be managed in partnership with the Research Development team within RIS for all applications of this scale.

Additional funding has been made available for projects that meet these criteria.
