Festival of Research is an annual series of events committed to stimulating discussion around topics of interest to the researcher community and a platform to showcase research and future plans, celebrate successes and facilitate networking opportunities.

Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 May 2024

Co-convenors Professor Iain Docherty, Dean of the Institute for Advanced Studies and Professor Rachel Norman, Dean of Research Engagement and Performance, are delighted to share plans for this year’s Festival of Research, which will take place on Monday 20 May and Tuesday 21 May 2024.

This year’s Festival programme will see a series of events that will focus on the new Research and Innovation strategy, international research, a research integrity world café, and the PGR Images of Research Competition.

The programme will also host the popular Research Culture Awards to recognise collaborative and supportive behaviour with nominations opening mid-March. The Research Culture Awards Ceremony will be co-hosted by Professor Rachel Norman (Dean for Research Engagement and Performance) and Professor Edward Duncan (Associate Dean for Research Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport and Research Environment Group Vice-Chair) on Tuesday 21 May.

All events, with the exception of the PGR Images of Research and the Research Integrity world café, will be hybrid. Planning for the Festival and the Research Culture Awards is underway, and we look forward to releasing further information soon.

Research Culture Awards 2024

The flagship Research Culture Awards are open for nominations.

Now in its 5th year, the Research Culture Awards are a way to recognise and encourage collaborative and supportive behaviour by celebrating staff members who demonstrate good role modelling across the career spectrum; increase the visibility of efforts and place value in often-hidden contributions, and create a shared understanding of what we value at Stirling.

  • Outstanding Early Career Researcher
  • Outstanding Activity dedicated to enhancing Research Culture
  • Outstanding research activity dedicated to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Let a colleague know you value them and why by nominating them for the Research Culture Awards 2024.

The Awards Ceremony will be co-hosted by Professor Rachel Norman (Dean for Research Engagement and Performance) and Professor Edward Duncan (Associate Dean for Research Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport and Research Environment Group Vice Chair) on Tuesday 21 May (12:30 to 14:00) in Campus Central. Registration will open shortly.

PGR Images of Research competition

To highlight the fantastic research that is undertaken by the Postgraduate Research Community at Stirling our PGR Images of Research competition is running again this year.

Shortlisted entries will be exhibited as part of the Festival of Research in May. The competition offers postgraduate researchers across the University an opportunity to showcase their research in a creative and innovative manner, it is a fantastic opportunity to develop public engagement skills, by challenging yourself to communicate your research to a non-specialist audience.

Images are an engaging and effective way of conveying information, allowing you to think creatively about representing your research, entries should be simple but striking, compelling the audience to think and find out more. In 2023 there were some brilliant entries and we hope to see more this year. Panel members this year are Professor Iain Docherty, Professor Oliver Mallett, Dr Heather Price, Professor Maureen Michael and Dr Pamela Rackow.

The closing date is 12 April 2024, full details are available on the PGR Canvas module.
