About me

I am a geographer by training, with particular interests in the cultural, creative and media industries; culture-led edvelopment and 'regeneration' in urban and rural settings; digital technologies and ICTs; geographies of care, and geographies of gender. My research integrates traditional social-scientific ways of understanding the social world with approaches taken from humanities disciplines such as art, architecture and design; theatre, film and TV; media and communications, and cultural studies.

Prior to taking up my post at Stirling, I worked as a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow, on the AHRC-funded project The Major Minor Cinema: The Highlands and Islands Film Guild, 1947-71. More information on the project can be found here: I worked on a number of RCUK-funded projects at the University of Glasgow, including the AHRC-funded Supporting Creative Business project (2013-2015), as well as shorter-term projects funded via the RCUK Centre for Copyright and New Business Models in the Creative Economy (CREATe).
I secured my PhD in Geosciences in 2012 from the University of Edinburgh. My PhD research focused on museums’ outreach and community engagement programmes. Between 2011 and 2013, I was employed as Teaching Fellow in Geography at the University of Edinburgh.
