I joined the University of Stirling in 2013, with my teaching and research focused on entrepreneurship and enterprise. My area of expertise is broadly entrepreneurship, specifically business growth and development in the context of young ventures and SMEs. Prior to this I worked at Scottish Enterprise while completing my PhD at the University of Strathclyde, undertaking thematic research projects to inform enterprise policy development. With a background in consultancy (specifically SME development), I have worked on research projects for a number of major international bodies including the European Commission and the OECD.

My primary research interest is firm development and growth. My current academic work focuses predominantly on high growth entrepreneurship, particularly issues related to strategic firm growth processes, attitudes and aspirations of growing firms, engagement with customers for increased performance, and public sector assistance for growing and high potential firms. I am also interested in other issues pertaining to growth, including alternative financing like equity crowdfunding, accelerator programmes for business development and entrepreneurial migration between entrepreneurial ecosystems.
My work has been published in a number of top journals including Environment and Planning C: Government and Policy, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development and International Small Business Journal.
