About me

Susanne Cruickshank is Associate Professor in Cancer Nursing at the University of Stirling, Scotland and Director of Masters in Advancing Practice. She is Chair of the Royal College of Nursing Cancer and Breast Care Forum, member of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Cares’ Corporate and Philanthropic Committee, and the editorial Board for the RCNi Cancer Nursing Practice Journal. She is a member of the Cancer Challenge Innovation board

With over 25 years’ experience working clinically in oncology and haematology, she started her career caring for people undergoing surgery for head and neck cancer then moved into haematology and transplantation, breast cancer surgery and chemotherapy services before joining Edinburgh Napier University in 2003. She moved to the University of Stirling in 2016.

Susanne is passionate about education and the opportunities it affords to promote the synergy between research, practice and policy. Her research is all interdisciplinary and clinically applied, and seeks to improve the lives of people affected with cancer, inform health policy and translate into education and Practice. She gained her doctorate in 2014 from Edinburgh Napier University using a randomized controlled trial to assess the effectiveness of a using needs assessment in a breast cancer follow-up clinic. Her current work focuses on the needs of those living with a cancer diagnosis, specifically fear of cancer recurrence and/or progression. She also explores issues associated with the cancer nursing workforce such as cytotoxic safety, workforce preparedness, and specialist nursing interventions.
