I have worked as an English language teacher in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Indonesia, Yugoslavia and Mozambique. I have also worked with English language teachers in Finland, Poland, Turkey, Ecuador, Japan, Australia, Mongolia and South Korea. I have been involved as both trainer and assessor in the Cambridge ESOL CELTA and DELTA schemes and have written published materials for learners of English. Before joining the University of Stirling in 2009, I was a lecturer in English language and linguistics at the University of the West of Scotland.
I am interested in language teaching pedagogy and applications of discourse and conversation analysis. My doctoral thesis used conversation analysis to explore communication between lecturers and international students in Masters supervision meetings.
