I am Head of the Fish Health and Welfare Group and the Aquatic Vaccine Unit at the Institute of Aquaculture. I have worked on the development of fish vaccines and rapid diagnostic tests since 1985, and have over 140 publications in this area, having graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow (BSc 1979) and University College London (PhD 1983). I am the co-founder of Aquatic Diagnostics Ltd (www.aquaticdiagnostics.com), a spin-out company, marketing monoclonal antibodies for the identification of fish pathogens and detection of components of the fish immune system.
My main research interests include • Host-pathogen interactions • Fish vaccine development • Development of multiplex tests for the detection of fish pathogens and components of the fish immune system • Effects of feed components and novel feed additives on the immune system and disease susceptibility
