John Taylor is a graduate of Heriot-Watt University (BA Hons Recreation) (1994) and the University of Edinburgh (MSc Social and Educational Research) (2001). He has over 20 years experience as a researcher and research manager having previously worked as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Leisure Research (CLR) and as a Research and Evaluation Manager at sportscotland. John has monitored and evaluated a range of sports initiatives completing evaluations of the ‘Girls on the Move’ Programme, the SFA’s Football Academy and Community Club Officers Project and has recently undertaken research for Scottish Golf exploring the career pathways of Scottish Professional golfers. John has also supported evaluations of International Development through Sport (IDS) and International Inspirations sport for development projects in India and Africa. John has been a Director (Strategy and Governance) on the Board at triathlonscotland and is currently a member of the Research Advisory Group (RAG) for the Observatory for Sport in Scotland. John is currently working on his PhD, exploring the evaluation of sport for development programmes in Scotland and assessing the efficacy of logic models as an evaluation tool.
John has an interest in a broad range of sports topics including sports policy, strategic planning development, youth sport, youth leadership and sports participation. He has particular interest in evaluation of sport for development programmes. He is also a member of the Research Advisory Group (RAG) for the Observatory for Sport in Scotland.

John is the Programme Director for the BA (Hons) in Sports Studies and is the Module Coordinator for the Sports Policy module (SPSU9SP) on the undergraduate Sports Studies programme in Stirling. He is also the Module Coordinator for the Sports Policy module (SPSUSSP) on the Sports Studies and Marketing programme at the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM). John also teaches on the undergraduate and MSc research methods modules and supervises students completing their final year independent major projects.
