About me

I am a Lecturer in TESOL and Applied Linguistics and the Program Director of the PhD in TESOL Research in the Faculty of Social Sciences. I deliver pedagogically and linguistically focused modules in our three campus-based Master’s programs, online MSc in TESOL and blended PhD in TESOL Research. I’ve also supervised and examined a number of Master’s and PhD students in my areas of expertise.

Prior to my appointment at the University of Stirling, I taught ESOL students and student teachers from different countries and worked with undergraduates/postgraduates in English Language and Linguistics as well as TESOL at Queen’s University Belfast. It was also at Queen’s where I undertook my PhD research which examined disciplinary variation in doctoral theses in English Language and Literature. My previous work experience and educational background have provided me with extensive knowledge of TESOL and Applied Linguistics from both a practitioner’s and a teacher educator’s perspective.

I am the co-founder/co-chair of the Corpus Linguistics in Scotland (CLiS) Network, and I am on the editorial board of international journals such as Corpus Pragmatics and TESOL Journal. My list of publications includes the lead editing of Perspectives on Corpus Linguistics (2011, John Benjamins), which has been translated to Chinese (2016, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press).
