About me

About me

I am an interdisciplinary geoscientist/environmental scientist with mineralogy, geochemistry, GIS, and data science expertise. I used such knowledge to conduct various research in continental and marine geoscience projects. I recently participated in research projects in collaboration with the Geological Society of Northern Ireland, employing machine learning tools for bedrock mapping and characterisation; aiming to understand the natural radioactivity, particularly radon contamination. I have also worked with the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) and the industrial sector on various projects. These projects focused on reconstructing environmental change during the quaternary in both the northern and southern hemispheres. I employ various analytical tools and techniques to understand organic carbon movement and changes in connection with deep ocean circulation. I participated and led research projects in connection to ore petrology as well igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. I supervised students BSc, MSc and PhD student projects covering a wide range of topics in terrestrial and marine geosciences.

Distinguishing between Deep-Water Sediment Facies: Turbidites, Contourites and Hemipelagites Dorrik Stow, Zeinab Smillie doi.org/10.3390/geosciences10020068 The paper was awarded "Best Geoscience Paper" in 2021. The article comprehensively covers aspects of ocean currents and topography and how this leads to interacting sedimentary processes alongslope and downslope.
