About me

I am a Research Fellow and part-time PhD student in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport. I have several years’ experience conducting, commissioning and teaching research across the public, private and voluntary sectors. In 2011, I returned to academia to deliver an NIHR funded study to evaluate the longer term impact of NHS Stop Smoking Services in England.

My background is in applied public health and social research where I have worked across a range of substantive areas including: general health and wellbeing, mental health, addictions, and disability. I have managed and contributed to several quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods which include: the Scottish Health Survey; Scottish School Leavers survey; and a five year qualitative, longitudinal, cohort study of gamblers and their social networks across Glasgow.

My current research areas are health behaviour change, social network research, tobacco control, smoking cessation and adolescent smoking. With colleagues we have just completed a process evaluation of the delivery of ASSIST (A Stop Smoking in School Trial) in Scotland. My PhD is looking at the trajectory of ASSIST beyond the school environment using social network analysis. I am also the equalities representative and Chair of Athena SWAN for the Faculty (Bronze Award achieved, 2015).
