She is currently researching government responsesto minority ethnic peoples in the First World War including Belgian refugees. This followsthe award of a 2year pilot project grant to investigate wartime British repsonses to Belgian refugees by BA/Leverhulme. She has presented manyconference papers on this topic. Shehasedited and contributed two artciles for the journal 'Immigrants and Minorities' on Belgian refugees in the First World War. She is also an active researcher in the social history of medicine and has published a book on the inter-war history of Scotland’s health. She is alsoresearching the career activities of poor doctors in working class urban Scotland in the late 19th and early 20th centuries following a Royal Society of Edinburgh grant award on this topic in 2012. She has recentlypublished articles on Scottish GPs in the 19th centuryin Social History of Medicne (2015) and in the US journal 'Bulletin for the History of Medicine' (2013).
