About me

About me

Professor Trevor Telfer has over 37 years experience in marine environmental resource assessment and development. After working in the oil industry and on marine conservation, he completed a PhD in marine ecotoxicology at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He joined the Institute of Aquaculture in 1995 and has spent the last 27 years developing and managing academic and commercial research. He lectures on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in aquaculture and marine biology. He has been principal supervisor to 17 PhD researchers, and is presently principal supervisor to 7 PhD researchers.

Research (16)

Research, based in the EU, South-East Asia and Africa, includes; Assessment and modelling environmental impacts and carrying capacity of aquatic systems for aquaculture, sustainable development of aquaculture, ecotoxicology of aquaculture chemicals, and mitigation of aquaculture impacts using emerging technologies.  He has been a research partner in 7 EU projects and had a number of NERC studentships. Between 2016 and 2020 he was overall coordinator for the, sixteen partner, EU H2020 TAPAS (Tools for Assessment and Planning of Aquaculture Sustainability) project working on licensing and regulation of aquaculture in Europe through carrying capacity and effective environmental resource use.
