The University of Stirling has been ranked top five in Scotland and top 50 in the UK for the impact of its research, according to new analysis from Times Higher Education.

The rankings – based on the results of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 – reaffirm Stirling's reputation as a research-intensive university committed to making a difference to society.

In the Times Higher Education (THE) REF 2021: Impact Scores, the University ranks joint fourth in Scotland – behind the Universities of Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Glasgow, and equal with the University of St Andrews.

At UK level, Stirling ranks joint 43rd alongside St Andrews and Royal Holloway, University of London.

The analysis follows the publication of the REF 2021 results, which assessed that 87% of the University's research has an outstanding or very considerable impact on society.

It also rated more than 80% of Stirling research as being world leading or internationally excellent and commended the research environment for enabling excellence and delivering impact.
