The University of Stirling has appointed its first entrepreneur-in-residence, to further support students, alumni, and staff to achieve their start-up business ambitions.

Scott Brady – a successful businessman with extensive international experience and current Managing Director of ecos, and SB Global HR and Legal LLP – has taken up the newly created role at Stirling Management School. His appointment enhances the School’s efforts to equip students with the skills, confidence, and experience required to be successful business people, and he will have a particular focus on supporting the next generation of start-up companies.

In addition to his current businesses, Scott has previously successfully established and sold three companies across different sectors, and has extensive experience in the public and private sectors. In his role as Managing Director of ecos, an environmental consultancy business, Scott works closely with the hospitality, food and drink sector to advise it on public policy matters.

Kevin Grant, Dean of Stirling Management School, said: “I am delighted to welcome Scott to the University of Stirling community. We are fortunate to have such an entrepreneur-in-residence to help students, staff, and alumni to develop business ideas and deal with the challenges of starting a new business.

“Scott brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the impact of change in business, and is passionate about helping others achieve their goals.  Scott’s role allows us to support and enable start-ups, as well as providing a critical resource to help regional SMEs and our City Deal partners to navigate these challenging times, for the betterment of the region.”

Stirling Management School enjoys close links with industry and prominent management education bodies – evidenced by its ranking among the top 10 universities in the UK for Economics, Marketing and Human Resource Management, and top five in Scotland for Business Studies, Accounting and Finance, and overall research impact.

In his role, Scott will lead and be involved in a range of activities, including: entrepreneurial skills workshops; evaluating start-up business ideas and helping to develop business plans; advising on funding types, methods, and agencies; consulting on the commercialisation of research; supporting students, alumni, and staff to access global business networks.

Scott said: “I’m taking up this role because the interaction I’ve had with the Stirling Management School team and students has been really inspirational, and I want to support the great work they are doing.

“Throughout my career, I have assisted many businesses and students – including employing graduates to work on projects in my own businesses. There is great enthusiasm and talent here at Stirling, and I am confident that together, we will create a great number of memorable business initiatives.

“I am looking forward to using my experience to pass on the advice that will set members of the Stirling community on the road to commercial success.”
