It was a hugely successful day in the Olympic pool today for Stirling swimmers.

Duncan Scott and Robbie Renwick were part of the Team GB squad who sealed Olympic silver in the 4x200m freestyle relay early this morning.

Team GB, consisting of Duncan Scott, Stephen Milne, Dan Wallace, James Guy and Robbie Renwick, achieved their best result in 108 years with a time of 7:03.13, a new British Record.

19-year-old, Stirling student Duncan Scott, also broke the British record in the 100m freestyle heat, clocking 48.01 to advance third fastest. He will swim in the final on Thursday at 03:03 BST.

Sadly, team-mate Craig Benson missed out on the 200m breaststroke final after finishing seventh in the semi-final.

Professor Gerry McCormac, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stirling – Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, said:

“We had three incredibly talented athletes representing Team GB in the Olympic pool today. Each one of them has done their country, and University, proud. Special congratulations to Robbie and Duncan for their silver medals and to Duncan for breaking the 100m freestyle heat British record. The entire University community is watching on with excitement, cheering the swimmers every step of the way, and we’re delighted by their success.

“I would like to pass my congratulations to them all and their families.”
