The Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC), based at the University of Stirling, has scooped three prestigious awards.

Pauline Cameron, a staff nurse with NHS Tayside and a training officer at the DSDC, picked up the Nurse Award at the Scottish Health Awards, the most prestigious and recognised awards ceremony for healthcare professionals in Scotland.

Pauline received the award for helping to develop and deliver the ground-breaking ‘Best Practice in Dementia Services Care’ training, which aims to improve the care that people with dementia receive.

At the same event, Jennifer Taggart won the Quality Champion of the Year Award in recognition of her role as a facilitator on the training programme.

The Best Practice in Dementia Services Care programme was also recognised at the Herald Society Awards, being commended in the Older People’s Project of the Year Award category.

For the past five years, Pauline Cameron has been a key member of the team which has been delivering the training to more than 1000 facilitators across the UK, who have in turn trained almost 7000 frontline health and social care staff.

The programme was devised to address the educational needs of all health and social care staff, working with people with dementia in hospitals, care homes and domiciliary settings.

Pauline Cameron said: "I was extremely proud to have been nominated and selected as a finalist for the Nurse Award at the Scottish Health Awards. It feels fantastic to have won!

"I am very grateful to NHS Tayside for continuing my secondment and especially grateful to all my colleagues at the Dementia Services Development Centre for their support. It is a real privilege to be part of an amazing team who work so hard to improve services for people affected by dementia."
