As an academic I am in the Accounting department of the American College in Greece (Deree College) for thirteen years. I feel that pursuing a PhD will help me hone my knowledge in the field, and in particular as it relates to the Greek market, enhance my academic profile, as a holder of a terminal degree, and advance my professional career.
Accounting in the 21st century has changed dramatically, due to the fact that all European countries were obliged to adhere to common accounting practices (i.e. International Financial Reporting Standards), so as to make financial information more effective in an increasing global market. Working and living in Greece, I am interested in the Greek business environment and the implications of the International Financial Reporting Standards implementation on Greek companies’ financial information.
The University of Stirling’s program is suitable for my research interests which lie in International Accounting. I believe I am an ideal PhD candidate since I consider my teaching and professional experience in two continents (Europe and USA) strong assets. Moreover, my familiarity with completing committee work, working within a set calendar to achieve course objectives, meeting deadlines and conducting research in preparation of assigning and evaluating student papers, will undoubtedly enable me to meet and exceed your expectations.
