Undergraduate students from the University of Stirling Management School attended the Business Networking Event on Wednesday 14th February as part of their Professional Development and Practice module.
The Business Networking event offers students an opportunity to work with business mentors to explore some of the critical factors affecting business decisions. During the afternoon session each group explored a topic from the list below.
- What are the skills required by an effective manager?
- In what ways can leadership be portrayed in business?
- How can ethics contribute to a successful business?
- How can networking help grow a business?
- What can entrepreneurial thinking bring to a business?
Business mentors representing organisations including, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, SEPA, 2e-volve, Ceteris, and the Bank of Scotland participated in the afternoon’s activities. This is a great opportunity for students to network with business mentors and fellow students from across the Management School.
“Networking is a key business skill that we believe all students should possess to build upon their social capital and cultivate social relationships. Many students find the idea of networking daunting; this event alleviates their fears by providing an opportunity to practice networking skills in a supportive environment”
Carol Marshall, Module Coordinator
“Thanks again to you and the team for an excellent and very well-organised event last night.
..the students were engaged and motivated, and had some great ideas and opinions. (And I may have imagined it, but there also seemed to be a greater percentage of outspoken and driven female students - which can only be a good thing!)
'Be the difference' indeed!”
Dave Allan, Mentor
“I absolutely loved the Business Networking event, it has been a huge help for myself personally and an added bonus speaking to someone who works in an organisation in which I have applied for. “
