On Wednesday 22 April 2015 Stirling University hosted the second Scottish Business and Industrial History Conference. Organized by the Accounting and Finance Division of Stirling Management School, the conference welcomes papers dealing with a diverse range of topics relating not only to Scottish business, financial and industrial history, but also to broader social and economic themes in Britain’s development. The conference takes its name from Scottish Business and Industrial History the journal of the Business Archives Council of Scotland which is jointly edited by Dr Alisdair Dobie of Stirling University and Professor Sam McKinstry of the University of the West of Scotland. This year’s conference saw papers presented on a wide range of predominantly nineteenth and twentieth century topics including the Scottish textile industry, the whisky market, social welfare, agricultural machinery manufacturing, and Scottish entrepreneurial activity in southern Africa. The third SBIH conference is planned for Spring 2016.
