Computer Labs

PC and Apple Mac computers are available for use by students and staff in various locations throughout the University. Computers are networked and the majority are located in computing labs and are equipped with standard software packages. These include word processing, spreadsheet and Internet packages. The software is controlled centrally and located on Network File Servers.

More detail of PC setup in the labs can be found on the Student IT Lab Services page.

Access to Computers

The majority of computers for student use are located in Labs. The Labs serve two main functions: firstly, as a formal teaching area used by lecturers and secondly by students for study work. Lab bookings are booked via resource booker If you have any enquiries about using resourcebooker please contact Timetabling . A timetable detailing bookings is displayed on the door of every lab. If there are no classes running, an 'Open Lab' policy is adopted whereby students are free to use the facilities. Timetables are also available on the Lab Timetables page.

Booking a lab for teaching

Lab bookings are booked via resource booker If you have any enquiries about using resourcebooker please contact Timetabling. Staff are required to check the appropriate software is in the lab that has been booked for them and submit a software request form if it needs to be installed. Any requests for labs outside of teaching time should go to the Information Centre.

 Printing in the Labs

Several of the central labs are equipped with Pharos Print Stations linked to printers*. Each student is allocated a free printing quota at the beginning of each semester which can be topped up if the need arises. Full instructions as to how the system works can be found on this site under Printing and Photocopying in the Library and Student Labs.

*Staff should use their own desktop printer rather than print in the labs.
