Practice Teacher Preparation Programme

In 2013 the Scottish Government announced that the current Public Health Nursing (PHN) role, as defined within Nursing for Health 2001, should be refocused and the titles of Health Visitor and School Nurse reintroduced.  The refocus of roles has resulted in a need for further education and training for the current workforce and developing a new workforce of Health Visitors and School Nurses to meet policy and workforce demands, “this takes account of the current and emerging policy landscape related to early years, children and families and the need to ensure we have a workforce with the capacity and capability to focus on the earliest years and school aged children” (Scottish Government 2013).

On completion of this programme students will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake the role of Practice Teacher as identified in the Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice (NMC 2008).
