Verena MacLeod, a newly qualified nurse at the University of Stirling's Highland Campus, has been awarded the R G Bomont Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice by the University of Stirling.
She will receive her award at a ceremony at the University’s Highland Campus – where she studied for her nursing degree. The presentation will be made on 5 November, the afternoon before Verena's graduation ceremony in St Andrew's Cathedral, Inverness.
Her personal tutor Irene Murray commented "With a strong belief in the importance of understanding the patient’s vulnerability, and recognizing the psychological impact of the hospital setting and resulting physiological implications, the patient is always at the centre of Verena’s nursing care.
"She always takes time to ensure her patients can express their fears, wishes and needs, and demonstrates an extremely high level of empathy. Verena intends continuing her professional education in the area that attracted her to nursing - the care of mother and child."
