Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey 2017

Tell us your thoughts about your course...

We’re keen to make sure postgraduate students have the best possible experience while studying at the University of Stirling.  To do that we need to know what you think we are doing well and what we can do better. If you’re thinking about taking part this year, these are the answers to some of the questions students often ask:

  1. What is it?
  2. Why should I take part?
  3. What does it cover?
  4. What happens to the results
  5. What do I need to do?
  6. Is it anonymous?
  7. Where can I find out more?

What is it?

The Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey or PTES is a national survey of postgraduate taught students inviting them to comment on their course and experience. The questionnaire takes around 15 minutes to complete.

Why should I take part?

The Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey is your chance to tell us your thoughts about your programme. It is also your opportunity to tell us what you liked about your time here and things you feel could be improved.  Also, you will automatically be entered into a prize draw for one of 5 £100 voucher prizes.

What does it cover?

PTES concentrates on your course and includes:

  • motivations for taking the course;
  • information you were given to help choose your course;
  • your experience of teaching and learning;
  • the organisation of your course;
  • assessment and dissertation (or major project), and;
  • career development.

It will also include a few extra questions about issues that are particularly relevant to us and to students at Stirling.

What happens to the results?

Your feedback is important.  Over one hundred universities and colleges take part. This means we can compare your experience against similar postgraduates at other institutions to see if we are supporting your learning as we should. We use the findings to improve our courses and the learning experience for future students.  Have a look at our 'Putting students first...' page where we've summarised last year's results and the steps taken to improve your experience and the experience of future postgraduates at Stirling.

What do I need to do?

You will receive an email with a link to the questionnaire on Tuesday 7 February 2017. Simply click on the link and complete the online form.  You can also find the link on your Myportal page. The survey is open until 30 April 2017.

Is it anonymous?

The survey is confidential and no-one will be able to identify you from any results. The survey asks that any comments you make should not identify yourself or any specific members of staff.
