June ceremonies: afternoon schedule

What to do on the day: schedules for the afternoon graduation ceremonies of Tuesday 21, Wednesday 22 and Friday 24 June 2022.

Train disruption during graduation week

Staff and students are advised that there may be disruption to trains next week due to the temporary timetable and the Network Rail industrial action. This could potentially have an impact on travel if planning to attend our on campus summer graduation ceremonies.

If you are planning to travel to campus by train, please plan your journey in advance by checking the Scotrail on Twitter or their website.

Graduand registration

Registration for graduates will open from 12:15pm to 2:00pm in Sports Hall 1 (Sports Centre). You will be issued with your graduate ticket which will grant you entry to your ceremony and the Garden Party afterwards.

If you have not registered and taken your seat 30 minutes before the commencement of the ceremony, you will not be able to enter the National Tennis Centre and you will not be able to participate at your ceremony.

You can collect your academic dress from 12:30pm in Sports Hall 1. Please note that academic dress needs to be ordered in advance of your ceremony from Ede & Ravenscroft.

Guest ticket collection

Registration for guests will open from 12:15pm in the Sports Centre Foyer. Whilst you are completing your registration process and collecting your academic dress please ask your guests to collect their tickets. They will need to present the confirmation email. Your guests will also have the opportunity to purchase refreshments from the Café area.

Graduand seating

You must ensure you sit in the row and seat detailed on the ticket that you were issued at the Graduation Registration Desk. This is so you are called up on stage in the right order. You must be seated by 2:00pm.

Guest Seating

Guests must be seated in the National Tennis Centre by 2.00pm. Guest seats in the ceremony are not individually reserved and so those arriving earlier will have a greater choice available.

Your ceremony

Your ceremony will commence at 2.30pm and will last approximately 90 minutes.

Academic award announcement

You will be led by one of our marshals in the correct presentation order to the stage. Once on stage your name will be announced and you will be directed to cross the stage, where your award will be acknowledged by ‘faux capping’ you lightly on the head.

End of your ceremony

All graduates will process out of the ceremony via the back doors. We recommend that you pre-arrange a meeting point with your guests, re-joining them somewhere en route to the graduation Garden Party.

Live stream or watch on campus

Loved ones can't join you on the day?  Don't worry, they can still share this moment by watching the ceremony live on campus within the Logie Lecture Theatre during the ceremony. There is no booking requirement for this option. Alternatively, friends and family may view the ceremony off campus via the webcast.

If you are on campus and do not have a ticket for the ceremony in the Sports Centre, you can view the ceremony live in the Logie Lecture Theatre. The live steam will start 10 minutes before the ceremony starts. The doors to Logie will be open half an hour before the ceremony starts.

Garden party

After the ceremony concludes please make your way to Haldane’s Lawn for the Garden Party where you can celebrate with family, classmates and friends – please retain your graduation ticket as you can exchange this for a celebratory drink and sweet canapes.

The official photography service is located in Campus Central, level 3 and the studio will run throughout the day from 8.30am until 6.00pm. If there is time you can get your photos taken before your ceremony, but please make sure you are seated in the National Tennis Centre by 2.00pm.

Accessibility access

Assistance is available on campus as necessary to access graduation registration, the ceremony, photography studio and the garden party.

There are designated areas in the National Tennis Centre for guests who are wheelchair users.

In The Atrium you will also find a selection of information stands and stalls selling commemorative graduation souvenirs and merchandise.
