The next Inverness graduation ceremony is due to take place on Friday 2 November 2018. Future graduation dates can be found here. Further details about the graduation ceremony and reception, including important deadlines, will be available here in the Autumn.
We will send a graduation registration email to your University email address in the Autumn and you should complete the online registration as soon as possible. During the registration process you will be able to choose from three options:
The deadline will be specified in your graduation registration email.
If you are potentially eligible or are eligible to graduate at the forthcoming graduation ceremony, an email with details of how to register to graduate will be sent to your University email account in the Autumn.
If you have not received an email and are expecting to graduate, please contact the Timetabling, Exams and Graduation team at email@example.com.
The University aims to accommodate all students who wish to graduate, but only in exceptional circumstances will applications be considered after regsitration closes. If you are late but still wish to graduate, please contact the Timetabling, Exams and Graduation team immediately on 01786 467059 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
You may choose to graduate in absentia. In this case, you would not attend the graduation ceremony or graduate in person, but your name can be included in the graduation press listing and the graduation t-shirt which is produced prior to each ceremony. Your certificate would be posted to your home address. Please note that if you choose this option, you will not normally have the opportunity to attend a future ceremony in person.
When you register to graduate, you will have the opportunity to amend your address to ensure that we send your degree certificate to the correct address. Please note if you do not complete the online registration your certificate will be posted to the home address currently held on your record. It is your responsibility to ensure that this information is correct.
For those graduating from June 2017 onwards, no fee is charged for the conferral of degrees. Therefore, as of 2017, students who successfully complete their programme of study will receive their degree certificate at no additional cost. If you choose to attend a graduation ceremony, there is a charge of £50 which includes tickets for you and two guests, souvenir programmes and entry to the graduation reception. There is no charge if you wish to graduate in absentia (see above for details).
If you have not discharged all outstanding financial liabilities held with the University you may not be eligible to graduate. If you are experiencing difficulty making payment, please contact the Income Office on 01786 466699.
No, you should register your intention regardless of whether you know the outcome of your exams.
When you opt to graduate in person, you are entitled to two guest tickets to attend the ceremony and graduation reception, plus a ticket for you as the graduand. All tickets are collected on your graduation day, no tickets are sent out in advance.
When you complete your registration for graduation, it is important that you tell us the number of guest tickets you require – zero, one or two. Please choose the correct number when you register, as you will not be able to alter this after the deadline has passed. Note that all guests, including children, require a ticket to enter the Cathedral.
The availability of additional guest tickets cannot be guaranteed.
After the deadline to register for graduation has passed, if additional tickets are available they will be sold online on a first-come, first-served basis. Demand for additional guest tickets can be high. If additional tickets are available, information about how to purchase them and when will be sent to your University email account.
As we cannot guarantee the supply of additional tickets, we advise that you do not make travel or accommodation arrangements for your guests until such time as you have purchased guest tickets for them.
If additional tickets become available, information about how to purchase them and when will be sent to your University email account after the deadline to register for graduation has passed. The availability of additional guest tickets cannot be guaranteed.
You will collect all tickets on the day of graduation from the Kenneth Street Hall.
As the availability of additional guest tickets cannot be guaranteed, we regret that it is not always possible for us to accommodate requests for additional tickets.
If, for any reason, you no longer wish to attend your forthcoming graduation ceremony, please refer below for your options.
Please note that if you have not fulfilled all academic requirements you may be ineligible to graduate and any monies paid in respect of graduation will be carried forward. If you do not wish your graduation fee to be carried forward and wish to receive a refund please email email@example.com.
If you wish to graduate in absentia, please email firstname.lastname@example.org detailing your request. If your address has changed from what you have previously advised during the graduation registration process, please ensure you include your new address in your email.
We use several venues for the graduation ceremony and reception: make sure you know where they all are in advance:
Collect your academic gown and hood
Collect your seating card from the reception desk
Collect your guest tickets
Make your way to the Cathedral for the start of the ceremony. It is very important you occupy the correct seat within the Cathedral. Ushers will be in attendance to provide assistance. All graduands must be fully robed and in their seat 40 minutes before the start of the ceremony.
Please remain seated until the Vice-Chancellor's procession enters, then rise with the rest of the audience and remain standing until the Vice-Chancellor invites you to be seated.
At the point when degrees are to be awarded, the marshals will ask the first graduands to take up a position in single file in the aisle. On the marshals' instructions you should walk, as your name is called, to be presented to the Vice-Chancellor who will cap each student in turn. At this point, please turn towards our graduation photographer, who will take an official photograph of you and the Principal.
You will then move on to receive your certificate from the Academic Registrar. You must then return to your original seat, following direction from the marshals.
At the close of the ceremony the assembly will rise and remain standing as the academic procession makes its way down the aisle. The graduates, on the instructions of the marshals, will then process out of the Cathedral. You will return to the main entrance where you disperse.
After the ceremony ends, please make your way to the Graduation Reception. Please retain your ticket as you will need it to gain access to the reception.
The reception will be held from 1.30-3.00pm in the Centre for Health Science, Inverness. Ede & Ravenscroft photography will be located in the ground floor seminar rooms for your graduation photographs and there will also be an opportunity to purchase graduation memorabilia.

The Centre for Health Science, Inverness
Car parking is available at the Centre for Health Science, but we suggest that guests share cars or use alternative modes of transport where possible. Guests should note that there is a £1 charge to use the car park and this should be exchanged for a parking token from the machine at the entrance to the Centre.
Handbags etc should be left with parents or friends. Please do not leave personal belongings in the robing room since their security cannot be guaranteed. The marshals will not be able to look after students' belongings.
