Democracy in Times of Dementia
In his talk, Dr Jared Sonnicksen will reflect on how core democratic values, participation and representation, will be fundamentally challenged by dementia. Even though there is a multitude of democratic theoretical issues richly analyzed and conceptualized in political science, there is yet strikingly little to be found with regard to the challenges posed by and for citizens with dementia. Dr Sonnicksen will explore democratic implications in relation to elections but also regarding non-conventional and participatory-oriented concepts such as deliberative democracy. Finally, he will provide an outlook for potential avenues of fostering democratic participation and representation of citizens with dementia - and he will invite all the guests present to reflect and discuss with him in the upcoming Q&A.
Before and after the seminar participants are welcome to take audio guided tours of the Iris Murdoch Building where Dementia Services Development Centre is based. The tours require a booking which can be arranged by contacting FoSSFacultyOffice@stir.ac.uk.
All are welcome to attend this free event, but please book your place online in advance
