2.30PM - 4.00PM
Speaker: Johanna Boyd, Consultant to the Equalities and Human Rights Commission Scotland, and former Leader of Stirling Council
Venue: Iris Murdoch building, University of Stirling
With a current international focus on equalities issues, how do we begin to operationalise desired equalities outcomes within complex organisations? Do we have an equalities culture within our organisation in terms of the values it espouses? And what practical steps do we need to consider to make our equalities goals a reality? Johanna Boyd, who will lead the discussion in her key note speech, was a barrister for 10 years specialising in public and human rights law at a leading set of London Chambers.
Johanna then went on to become the youngest Council Leader in Scotland and one of only two women leading councils in Scotland at that time. Johanna now works as a Consultant to the Equalities and Human Rights Commission.
The event will be Chaired by Professor Kirsty Park, Vice Chair of the Institutional Athena SWAN Group. It will run from 2.30 - 4pm, with networking and refreshments available from 4 - 5pm.
This special occasion is one of two events organised by the Institutional Athena SWAN Group at the University of Stirling to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event has also been supported by the Faculty of Social Sciences. A third event is organised by the Students' Union.
As you may be aware, members of the University College Union will be engaging in industrial action during March, in defence of academic staff pensions. Because of this, a decision has been made to delay this event from 5 March until 14 May. We really hope you will still be able to join us and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. If you are unable to attend, please either cancel your ticket via Eventbrite, or let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org
All are welcome to attend this free event, but please book your place online in advance.
