Venue: Lecture Theatre, INTO Building, University of Stirling

The University of Stirling is delighted to announce that Professor Otsuka, Deputy Principal of Atomi University, will join us during Japan Week 2018 to deliver a lecture on the classic art form of "anime", a style of Japanese animation.

In his lecture "The Wonderful World of Japanese Anime (from Astro Boy to Studio Ghibli)", Professor Otsuka will give a brief outline of the history of Japanese anime from Tezuka Osamu's 1960s ‘Astro Boy' through to Hayao Miyazaki's modern Studio Ghibli. Using slides and some short illustrative excerpts from key anime, we will examine the appeal that Japanese anime have for audiences around the world, and take a peek at the process behind their creation at Studio Ghibli.

Professor Chris Bullsmith, Associate Professor at Atomi University, will translate during the lecture and a range of anime clips will be shown. This lecture will be followed by a short drinks reception.
