This course is taught at the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

The MSc Media and Communications Management is delivered in English by academics from the University of Stirling, with teaching from internationally recognised local media specialists and leading Vietnamese media practitioners. This involves both face-to-face teaching, as well as online instruction.


Throughout the course, you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the building blocks of communications management, including:

  • marketing
  • branding
  • internal and crisis management
  • media economics
  • finance
  • business management strategy
  • social media community management

You’ll also have the opportunity to improve your management skills, as well as your analytical perspective on the communications and media industries. You'll be trained in appropriate research methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative.

I have to say I'm very happy with the quality of teaching. All the Stirling lecturers have PhDs, and are internationally well-known authors of many academic articles and books. Dr Matthew, Dr Julia and the tutors are often very willing to assist students – sometimes answering emails within a couple of hours with very good and detailed advice. In addition, the course blends an updated knowledge base with localised guest lectures by senior and high-profile professionals from Vietnam’s media and communications industries. Their experience and knowledge are highly appreciated and have proved to be great additional assets to the course.

  • Research

    Since it was founded in 1978, the division of Communications, Media and Culture at the University of Stirling has developed into a major centre for research and learning. Its research arm, the Stirling Media Research Institute, is internationally renowned, attracting a wide range of doctoral students, visiting scholars and practitioners from across the world.

    The department consistently draws high ratings for its teaching at all levels. We were ranked top in Scotland and top 15 in the UK for our media research impact in the most recent Research Excellence Framework – with 95% of our research classed as being of international standard, and 70% being named either 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'.

  • Academic requirements

    A minimum of a Second Class Honours degree (2:1 preferred) in a relevant subject or equivalent is required. If you don’t have these formal qualifications, but have significant relevant work and life experience, we still encourage you to apply.

  • English language requirements

    If English is not your first language you must have one of the following qualifications as evidence of your English language skills:

    • IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 in each skill
    • Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) 169 overall with a minimum of 162 in each sub-skill
    • Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE) 180 overall with a minimum of 162 in each sub-skill
    • Pearson Test of English (Academic) 54 overall with a minimum of 51 in each sub-skill
    • IBT TOEFL 78 overall with a minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing
    • Trinity ISE II Pass overall with a Pass in each sub-skill, ISE III Pass overall and in all sub-skills, ISE IV Pass overall and in all sub-skills

The Media and Communications Management Masters course includes six face-to-face modules, two online modules and a dissertation of 12,000 words at the end of the coursework period. Dedicated UK-based academics will visit Vietnam at regular intervals to lecture students, and internationally recognised local academics will conduct tutorials and moderate guest lectures and seminars.

As a Media and Communications Management graduate, you’ll finish this course with a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the subject.
