You can book a Quick Query with the consultant that works specifically with your faculty or any one of our qualified Careers and Employability Consultants.

What to expect

  • appointments last 15 minutes - option to follow up
  • discussions are impartial and confidential 
  • you will be signposted to other services if needed
  • your consultant will establish your aims for the meeting and agree what can be achieved in the time available.

This may include support to:

  • understand your information research and plan your next steps
  • consider career choices and support your decision making
  • get advice on preparing for interview or assessment centre
  • access careers information
  • identify your next steps
  • develop or review a CV, covering letter, personal statement or application form*.

  • Select the ‘Appointments’ tab located on the top of your dashboard,
  • Select ‘Search and Book’
  • You will have a list of various appointment types, select the one or more.
  • You can select appointments with the consultant that works specifically with your faculty or any one of our qualified Careers and Employability Consultants
  • Select ‘Show results’
  • Book your appointment.
Guidance appointments

Careers Guidance appointments enable you to speak to a consultant for a longer period of time. There is no set format but an appointment may be appropriate because you wish to start exploring career ideas or discuss a career issue in depth.

To book:

Guidance appointments are only available by referral from one of our Quick Query appointments.

Your Careers Guidance Appointment may involve:

  • Encouraging you to reflect on your skills, preferences, strengths, weaknesses, values, priorities and career or study ideas
  • Working with you to identify career or study ideas for further investigation
  • Exploring factors to consider in your career development. For example, this might involve discussion of employer expectations and selection criteria, or the academic requirements and funding opportunities for a postgraduate course you are interested in
  • Developing an action plan that will help you achieve your career goals over the short, medium or long-term
  • Enhancing your strategies for making applications, interviews and assessment centres

What to expect

This may include support to:

  • develop and improve your career management skills.
  • take responsibility for your career.
  • reflect on your skills, strengths, weaknesses, values and priorities.
  • identify your options and find opportunities
  • access information and make informed career decisions
  • take action (make applications and prepare for interviews)
Mock interviews

Mock Interview appointments with an adviser last for 40 minutes and are to help you with your interview technique. You can specify the areas/questions that you would like to concentrate on and the Consultant will structure the mock interview accordingly; feedback is given during the interview session.

We recommend that you also read our interview pages which contain a wealth of information and a link to our online interview software and video resources. 

In order for our Consultants to help you prepare we need to be able to tailor the mock interview to your individual circumstances. Therefore we will need you to send the following information to the consultant 5 working days beforehand:

  • A copy of your CV/application
  • A copy of the job description
  • Type of interview
  • Details of the interview, for example, what it will involve.

Online advice

Who is eGuidance for?

If you are University of Stirling student, recent graduate, or member of the Alumni and cannot attend the Careers Centre because you:

  • have moved away from Stirling after graduating
  • are on a placement
  • work full-time and cannot attend during our office hours
  • are at home for the holidays.

If you are submitting a CV please use our CV Checklist before submitting for review.  You can use our CVs, Covering Letters and Applications web pages and booklet for further information on how to put a CV together.

We aim to respond to your enquiry within 5 working days.

Please submit only documentation for 1 position at one-time for feedback, ie a CV and covering letter.
