The University of Stirling offers accommodation for those students wishing to bring their family with them.  This accommodation is not currently available to book on line and you should contact Accommodation Services to make a booking.

Please note – students with a serious disciplinary and/or debt record will NOT be considered for University accommodation.

For Session 2017/18, accommodation available to families & couples will be located in:

Alexander Ct Townhouses

5 x 3 bedroom flat (suitable for couple with maximum 2 children)
4 x 2 bedroom flat (suitable for couple with maximum 1 child)

This new build was completed in September 2013.

These family flats are located to the North East end of the campus. The flats are all together in one block, and split over 3 floors. The ground floor has 1 three bedroom and 2 two bedroom flats whilst the first and second floors both have 2 three bedroom and 1 two bedroom flat each.

Each flat has an open plan kitchen/living room with television (license fee included in the rental cost), a bathroom (with bath & overhead shower). The kitchens are equipped with a cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster.  The flat also has a vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board.

The flats are all accessed from a main stairwell which has a handy locked pushchair store on the ground floor for families to use.

There are laundry facilities (washers and dryers) in the main reception of Alexander Court for use by all students.

Polwarth House, Muirhead House, H H Donnelly House & Fraser of Allander House

4 x 1 bedroom flats (suitable for a couple with no children)
1 x 2 bedroom flat (suitable for couple with maximum 1 child)

These family flats are located in the centre of the Universities accommodation.  The flats are on access level within the buildings and whilst being completely self-contained, they are surrounded by single study undergraduate bedrooms and flats.

Each flat has a kitchen/living room, and a bathroom/shower room with WC.  The kitchens are equipped with a cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave and kettle.

Double bedrooms sharing kitchen & bathroom facilities

Alangrange is situated on the University Boundary and is suitable for couples who do not have any children.

This large comfortably furnished and centrally heated residence has several large rooms with wash hand basins, which make this ideal accommodation for couples.

Couples offered accommodation in Alangrange will be required to share a large communal lounge, kitchens, several bathrooms and toilets with single postgraduate students.

Accommodation contract dates for 2018/19 are as follows:

These dates indicate your contract period, so please ensure you arrange your travel plans accordingly.


Council Tax
Council Tax is a property based tax which is payable to local councils to help fund the cost of services that they provide such as the police and fire service. Most full time students are normally eligible for Council Tax exemption. In order to satisfy the "full-time" criteria for council tax exemption you must:

  • be required to attend University for a period of at least 24 weeks in the academic year and
  • undertake on average at least 21 hours of study, tuition or work experience in each of these weeks.

Please note if your husband/wife/partner is a non-student, they may be liable for Council Tax.
