Alison McKenzie RSW (1907-1982)

 Corfu Cliffs by Alison McKenzie

Corfu Cliffs
(Acrylic, 1976)

Born in Bombay, and raised in Bridge of Weir and Kilmacolm, Alison McKenzie studied at Glasgow School of Art and the Grosvenor School of Art in London. She worked as a designer and she went on to teach at Dundee College of Art.

This picture was bequeathed to the Art Collection by Aylwin Clark along with another by Alison McKenzie, and three more by her sister Winifred. Aylwin wrote a biography of the McKenzie sisters, with a foreword by David McClure, which provides a fascinating account of their joint lives. Their father George who trained at Glasgow School of Art in the 1880s was a contemporary and friend of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
