Born in Kirkintilloch in 1936, Jack Knox studied at Glasgow School of Art (1953-7). He was a member of the Young Glasgow Group (founded by James Morrison, Anda Paterson and James Spence in 1957) and attended the André Lhote Atelier, Paris, in 1958. He taught at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, and was appointed Head of Drawing and Painting, Glasgow School of Art, (1981-1992). He won numerous awards and exhibited widely.
