Born in London 1936, Philip Hughes has a long connection with the University of Stirling which started in the 1970s when he was a visiting lecturer in the then Management Science Department. This connection continued when he was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1985 for services to industry and science. He is reknowned both as a scientist and as a professional painter who has exhibited throughout his working life.
Philip Hughes recently exhibited some of his work at the University in 'Tracks: walking the ancient landscapes of Scotland', and after the exhibition donated this work to the Art Collection.
