Portrait of Alan Simpson OBE
(Chair of Court 2007-2015)
Oil on canvas, 2016
Unusually for a contemporary artist, portraiture is a crucial part of his Michael Fullerton’s artistic focus. He cites Gainsborough as an influence and paints individuals rather than situations. He challenges many of the traditional assumptions of portraiture.
Born in Bellshill in 1971, Michael Fullerton attended the Glasgow School of Art, and graduated with an MA in painting in 2002. He lives and works in London. His work includes painting, printmaking and sculpture. He has exhibited widely in Scotland and also in London and New York.
