I arrived in Stirling in 2010 eager to pursue a career in journalism and found that there was no limit to the amount of opportunities you could make for yourself as a student. For me, university was as much about the extra-curricular as it was the studies. I got involved in student newspaper Brig from day one and over the four years had a couple of radio shows on Air3, got heavily involved with the Snowsports and Gaelic Football clubs, tried out skydiving and worked as the communications officer for the Sports Union, meeting a lot of good friends along the way.
I ended up running the sports pages of Brig for three years, and through Brig found extensive mediawork with football clubs Stirling Albion and Falkirk, which led to work with several national newspapers.
Brig ultimately led me to my current graduate job – a role as an Associate Editor with Mpora, the biggest action sports and adventure website in Europe. I’ve been fortunate enough to make a living travelling the world and writing about the sports that I love. It’s amazing what you can do with a University of Stirling e-mail address. Make sure you make the most of it!
