Ian owns consultancy firm, Otherhand Ltd, specialising in high-level facilitation and mediation in Scotland. As Chair of our Board, Ian brings with him a wealth of experience in industry and higher education. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Edinburgh College and a board member at Colleges Scotland, the sector body for Further Education in Scotland. Ian has been a leading member of the Institute of Directors in Scotland for a number of years and is a member of the Institute of Directors UK Council. In addition to his role on our Board, Ian has provided mentorship to our students and delivered guest lectures.
As an award-winning business woman, Ann-Maree founded Labels4Kids, which is now one of the most prominent online retailers for name tags in the UK. She has won several high profile UK and international awards, including Entrepreneur of the Year twice. Her extensive expertise in E-Commerce led to her being appointed onto the UK Government E-Commerce task force to advise on growing E-Commerce in Europe, among other businesses including ASOS, John Lewis, M&S, Google and Microsoft.
Helping young people get into business is an important aspect of Ann-Maree’s work and she has been a board member of Young Enterprise Forth Valley since 2014. As a member of our School’s board, Ann-Maree contributes her expertise to new programme development and is also an Honorary Professor, representing the University at a wide range of business events. She offers placements and mentorship to students, and contributes to a range of events including our Flying Start Leadership Programme.
Diane brings over 20 years of management experience to our Board. As Vice President and General Manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Diane overseas all operations for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in these areas. She started on the Enterprise Management Training Programme and has been promoted several times to reach her current position, as well as playing an active role in public affairs and diversity issues for the Company. Diane is an advocate for supporting women in business and has been integral in Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s female mentoring programme, meaning the Company has stayed in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women for the tenth year running. She has also championed several equality initiatives including the SWAN LGBT networking group.
James is an expert in meteorology and hydrology, and during his time undertaking research he built an automatic weather station for the summit of Cairngorm. His significant expertise in these areas was recognised by the Scottish Government, who tasked James and a small team to create options for a new integrated Scottish Environment Protection Agency. He later became Head of Science, Director of Science and Strategy and finally, Chief Executive of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency until 2015. He now serves on the board of the James Hutton Institute and on several advisory committees including the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Delivery Board. A passionate advocate for environmental protection, James also founded and ran an eco-friendly retail and hospitality outlet during a career break.
