It's possible to secure internships after first year, so this will help you stand out.

What co-and/or extra-curricular activities have you participated in during your time at Stirling?

I’m a member of Women’s Lacrosse and Business Club and I have also been a class representative for three modules. In second year I worked for Enterprise Rent-a-Car promoting their internships and graduate roles after securing a summer internship between first and second year. Last year I worked for SIE as an Intern, promoting their business funding opportunities to students.

Why did you choose to engage in these specific activities compared to others available?

I joined Lacrosse to try a new sport in a social setting and joined Business Club to develop business-related skills and build a student network. My role at SIE linked well with this because many members are interested in pursuing business ideas. I became a class representative to ensure the feedback from students was reaching lecturers and improve my modules..

What key skills do you think you have developed as a result of engaging in these activities?

Lacrosse has definitely developed my teamwork and communication skills. Business Club has given me commercial awareness, problem solving and leadership skills as I held the role of PR Officer in the committee. My roles with Enterprise and SIE have developed my organisation skills and ability to work under pressure. These extra-curricular activities have been crucial to my development through University.

What advice would you give to 1st year students thinking about getting involved in activities out with their studies?

I recommend getting involved with clubs that you are passionate about. These will allow you have fun while developing key skills and meeting new people. Get involved as you can e.g. fundraising, as this will put you in a good place if you want to join the committee the following year.
