Our research

Our Management School is at the forefront of research and is recognised as a centre of academic excellence. We produce innovative research findings that make a difference to business and society, and provide guidance for government and industry decision makers.

Pioneering industry research

Our work has helped to influence business decisions in a number of sectors.

As a research-led School, our breadth of research covers all aspects of contemporary management. With our expertise, we aim to enhance lives, encourage behaviour change, and discover new ways of managing and working across all sectors.

We’re leaders in retail research, including town centre regeneration and community retail enterprises. In addition, our wellbeing and ageing research, as well as our privacy and surveillance research has helped in shaping government policies.

The strength and relevance of our research has led to many of our projects being funded by leading organisations, including:

  • The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
  • NHS Health Scotland
  • The Medical Research Council
  • The European Commission
  • The Scottish Government
  • Scottish Environmental Protection Agency
  • Food Standards Scotland

Research with impact

Our research impacts on people’s everyday lives. Discover how our Healthy Ageing in Scotland (HAGIS) project is helping to progress knowledge in this area.

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, 64% of our research outputs were classified as world-leading and internationally excellent (REF 2014). Our Management School is also among the UK’s top 25 institutions for Business and Management, out of 101 business schools (REF 2014).

Our research and knowledge exchange activities create significant and lasting impact through our involvement with, and influence on, large and small businesses, public policy, and local and global communities. We are positioned as one of the UK's leading Management Schools for research impact – 14th from 101 in the UK.
